El Rastro was an alternative rock band that was formed in Caracas in 1988. first members were Henry Casalta, (guitar and vocals), Juan Marcos Cebrián, (bass) and Cesar Jara, (Drummer); After a brief participation by Carlos Segura, Luis Otero joined as singer, Daniel Tello as keyboardist and Carlos Panepinto (Saxophone). The definitive formation of these six musicians took off in a dizzying manner in the underground atmosphere of Caracas rock in the 1980s.
El Rastro was part of the first Indie bands to record LPs, forming part of the underground scene along with others such as Sentimiento Muerto, Zapato 3, Desorden Público and the legendary Seguridad Nacional.El Rastro combines dark wave – post punk influences combined with symphonic rock sounds. And as a bonus, the arrangements by Juan Marcos Cebrián and Daniel Tello, who contributed great advances in electronic programming for the time.
In 1990, the producer, Eugenio Miranda, signed with El Rastro to produce his first and only LP “Dioses Terrestres”, with influences that resonate with Pink Floyd, darkwave , poprock and English postpunk. His intimate lyrics speak of loneliness, hope and love, with an expression of reality that today continues to generate identification and empathy among the followers of El Rastro.
Literary and cinematographic references, dreamlike passages, metaphor and poetry are characteristic of El Rastro. Their single “Una Ilusión” was a hit on Venezuelan radio and opened the doors to participation in numerous recitals, medium-capacity venues and festivals, sharing the stage with emblematic bands of the Venezuelan independent rock movement, some of them active today in day. Finally this year this cult album was released trough the Argentine label Twilight Records.
